Showing in the Cleveland Print Room gallery through April 15 is the culminating exhibition from last year’s invitational artist residencies—featuring artists Samuel Carpenter, Mary Defer, and Rich Stroffolino—Seen and Unseen: Explorations in Halides. Opening April 22, nationally-acclaimed art collector John Foster, of Accidental Mysteries, brings a selection of pieces from St. Louis to Cleveland, pairing photographs with other collected items of various media curated by Foster and CPR artist liaison Jess Fijalkovich and founder Shari Wilkins. Foster will be in conversation with Cleveland Museum of Art’s Chair of Prints, Drawings and Photographs and Curator of Photography Barbara Tannenbaum, on Saturday, April 30 in our gallery.

On April 22 and 23, visit Ruddy Roye Open Studio next door. CPR announces our first ever yearlong Artist-in-Residence recipient: internationally-renowned documentarian and photojournalist Ruddy Roye. A new Cleveland resident in 2020, he brings his photographic expertise to the Print Room residency as we honor our collaboration dating back to 2017. Named in 2020 as one of the National Geographic Storytelling Fellows and a recent Cleveland Foundation Equity in the Arts recipient, Roye shares studio space with CPR and will begin a salon in efforts to build community through photography.

TIME writes, “As a Black photographer who has spent the last few years shining a light on the difficulties of other Black men, women and children across America, he brings to his work an unwavering determination that can border on activism. In fact, his Instagram profile is clear about his aim: he’s a humanist; an activist. A photographer with a conscience.”
