Building Momentum at Deep Dive

Artist Davon Brantly, at work with Deep Dive

Summer is a time for swimming holes: the chaotic community pool, the cool still pond, the turbulent, but mesmerizing surf of our own Lake Erie. Currently, life at Deep Dive Art Projects is feeling like one of those endless pools with a strong jet that one swims against to develop more body strength. Starting a new business and trying to shake off the COVID cobwebs at the same time is a self-imposed challenge, and always exciting. This spring and summer a steady stream of artists created in the printshop downstairs at the Deep End, often attended by Oliver, the studio dog. Upstairs, in the Viewing Room, exhibitions of works by Sarah Kabot and Wendy Partridge brought new people to the Deep End during Walk All Over Waterloo events. A flow of art-consulting projects continues our engagement with regional and national artists and galleries. This June and July saw the completion of a long-term project with Cleveland Heights collectors, and the printing of two small intaglio editions with Wisconsin-based artist Michelle Grabner, in partnership with Abattoir Gallery. Now we’re enjoying late summer sunsets on the porch overlooking Waterloo Road and getting ready to show new prints by artists-in-residence Nikki Woods and Davon Brantley and one by Alexandria Couch. Woooosh!!!! No matter how much we wish summer would last, the current keeps pushing us forward and making us unstoppable.
