ArtHouse: Where Art Lives

Hot, cold, sunny or not, it’s summertime in Cleveland. Doors are opening up.

Creative energy is spilling out. The day Big Creek, West Creek, AECOM, a board member and I met on at Art House (to discuss any changes to the green infrastructure proposal), the thoughtful and reserved environmental landscape designer stepped out of his car with a huge smile on his face, so grateful to be seeing people in person again. Spirits were high as we talked over possibilities. New ideas emerged.

Bruce Edwards, Adlai Stevenson, Mobile: Knots & Balance

Starting in May, visual art requests began to flood in for the CMSD summer enrichment program. The teaching artists with whom I have spoken reported that when they entered the rooms the children’s excitement was visceral. The enrichment went in both directions. Will Sanchez stated, “…the thrill in their eyes when they learn to do the same! [after a demonstration] There is nothing like it. I found me!” The workshop impact hit home when Bruce Edwards observed a third grader who had struggled to understand knots teach another student how to do what she had just learned.

Art lives—inside everyone. What we do gives people the opportunity to find a way to bring it out.
