49th Annual Student Art Show and Merit Scholar Exhibition

Annual juried student art shows are an important standard for academic art galleries. Cleveland State University students get real life experiences and a firsthand look into the professional world of art. For many, this is the first time their work is critiqued by outside judges who are not their professors or fellow students. They experience the joy of acceptance, as well as the sting of rejection. Both are extremely valuable life lessons.

The 49th Annual Student Art Show features the work of CSU students and graduated 2020 students who missed the opportunity to show their art because of the pandemic. Items on display include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, video, animation, and sculpture. Many of the works are for sale. This year’s show, in the South and Center Galleries, includes 81 works of art submitted by 43 CSU students.

The Merit Scholar Exhibition in the North Gallery features work by recipients of the CSU Art Department Merit Scholarships. This years scholars are Kennedy Preston, Alana Cartwright, Stephanie Lopez, Mya Rowe and Dustin Hall. These talented merit scholars are fulfilling a scholarship requirement by presenting these five exhibitions.

Gallery viewing hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 pm. The Galleries are closed on Sunday, Monday, and all CSU holidays.
