The Gallery at Lakeland Community College presents a virtual exhibition and artist reception for Celebrate Women’s History Month—from WOMAN XIV… created by women, for women and about women. What started out as a small presentation by local and regional artists in 2008 has grown impressively to a sizable exhibition that includes artworks from artists across the country. A virtual guided tour of the exhibition, led by curator and Lakeland Gallery Director Mary Urbas, can be viewed at lakelandcc.edu/gallery.

I am excited and pleased to announce that I received a National Endowment for the Arts grant to help fund the creation of an online directory and a geospatial map of galleries and studios that are presenting in person and online exhibitions and events that honor women artists during Women’s History month.

A Visual Journey through Northeast Ohio: 100 studios, 200+ artists, 1 month

The self- guided tour is a project that I am passionate about. For the NEA to fund the directory during a global pandemic is HUGE! The networking and connections that were established with the first directories (2014-17) continue and flourish in 2021, with new venues and exhibition opportunities that have emerged throughout our creative visual arts community.

This year, the show is scheduled from February 21 through March 26, with a virtual artist reception on Sunday, March 21, from 3:00 to 4:00pm. Thirty-eight artists will be exhibiting works representing a diverse variety of media and visual interpretations—created in oil, acrylic, drawing, ceramics, photography, textiles, glass mosaic, sculpture, assemblage and mixed media.

Call for Artists: 11th May Show, NEW this year: initial online submissions, 2-stage jury process

The Gallery at Lakeland invites artists to submit artworks for consideration to be included in the 11th May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition running May 20 through July 8. Cash awards include the Best in Show prize of $1,500. Visit lakelandcc.edu/gallery for details.

New this year, PLEASE NOTE DIGITAL ONLINE ENTRIES for the first round. The drop off for artwork is Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9; for the second round of final jurying of the actual artworks and awarding of prizes.
