Lisa Eastman: Nocturne

June 1 Walk All Over Waterloo

Bainbridge artist Lisa Eastman paints luminous landscapes in oil that capture the dreamlike beauty of her surroundings.

“I use light as a spiritual metaphor in my work to give the viewer a sense of peace, love and harmony on this beautiful planet earth…. As an artist, my reverie is painting the natural landscape…. When a painting can make you feel with your heart and serve as a nostalgic place for all the beauty the world holds, then the artist has succeeded.”

Eastman’s lush oils glow with an intense aura and evoke a dreamlike reverie for the fortunate viewer who can quietly absorb their beauty.

Joe Stavec / Leslie Edwards Humez: Random Dream Episodes & the enigmatic life of objects

June 30 Waterloo Arts Festival & July 6 Walk All Over Waterloo

Artist Joe Stavec, a 1980 graduate of CIA, paints with oils, watercolors and ink.

“I take my information from many things—not least of which is the written word—which put me in a mindset to create images of a world that exists just behind the veil of what we perceive as our reality.

“Art is not an end in itself. It is a method of creating awareness of the marvelous. Surrealist art reveals invisible secrets and exposes hidden surprises. Surrealist images evoke the possible, supplemented by desire and dream.

“There are treasures hidden in the human mind, an ability to bathe everyday reality in a magic light.”

Exploring the boundaries of materials and meanings in uncommon ways, Leslie Edwards Humez works in a variety of media. She uses clay, paint and graphite to push the often-austere appearance of surrealism into the realm of pop culture with allusions to Marcel Duchamp and René Magritte.

“It has been said that men tell jokes and women tell stories. My specialty is creating visual tales that rely on metaphor, allusion and occasional word gag.”
