I am Charles Spooney with The Refresh Collective. I am a 19 year old screen printer from East Cleveland. I first met the crew at Zygote Press because of our amazing partnership with them. They have been instrumental in our process of beginning our youth led printing program, “Fresh Gear”, A program that I now run with my partners Dee Jay Doc and Lee Harrill.

One of my passions is working with people and children to uplift the community using art and music.  That’s why it has been a perfect fit for us to partner with Zygote! They have shown the exact same passion for our Cleveland community.

I love working with Liz and Rebekah at Zygote, as they have been a huge part of my success in learning how to become a screen printer. Through the process of learning from them, they have gone from teachers to friends, and now, we feel like family.

I personally love being at Zygote Press.  They have a beautiful set up in a beautiful building, filled with beautiful people. When I am there, I am inspired to create because I am surrounded by Art.  When I was just beginning to learn how to print, I was outside of my comfort zone.  While working at Zygote Press, surrounded by other artists, my point of view on comfort zones has changed.  I learned that even professional printers struggle to create their art at times, and that there is beauty in that struggle.
