Charming Chagrin Falls: Your Summer Arts Destination!

valley-art-center

Founded in 1844, the Village of Chagrin Falls is built around one of the natural wonders of the Chagrin River, its namesake waterfall, Chagrin Falls. The Village exudes charming small town character where you can still find mounted police and a turn of the century hardware store, on the edge of all the amenities of a big city. On a lazy summer day, one can simply sit and enjoy the gentle roll of the water pouring over the Chagrin River’s slate cliffs, while enjoying an ice cream cone or perhaps a treat from one of the many local eateries.

Chagrin Falls boasts an arts rich district where Valley Art Center is one of six arts non-profits and one of a dozen galleries, the only non-profit gallery in the Village. At Valley Art Center, you will find adults and children in class with locally and nationally renowned instructors, a spacious and modern gallery boasting five shows a year, a juried gift shop showing unique art from local artisans, and so much more! While you are here, come see our newly finished mural by nationally recognized artist Charles “Bud” Deihl, painted in his unique “hyperrealism” style– the first of its kind! Come explore the arts in Chagrin Falls, and experience all that Valley Art Center has to offer!

Call to Entry: Plein Air

Are you a plein air artist or are you up to the challenge of creating out of doors? Plein Air paintings and drawings are created outdoors, from start to finish, in direct observance of the subject, rather than in a studio working from sketches, photographs, or the imagination.
For Valley Art Center’s En Plein Air Art Exhibit, we invite you to take some time to paint or draw outside. Artists may enter any work created out of doors anywhere in the world in the mediums of drawing and painting. All art work must be created this year before the entry deadline of Sunday, August 21, 2016. In addition, join us for our Plein Air Workshop this summer on Saturday, July 16 for an outdoor painting experience! Plein Air Art Exhibit dates are September 9-October 12, 2016.  Opening Reception is Friday, September 9, 6-8pm, FREE and open to the public. For more information go to valleyartcenter.org. We hope to see you there!
