The Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory is dedicated to every facet of papermaking, book arts and letterpress printing. Our gallery is the perfect place to reflect these priorities, and we are excited to showcase a variety of talented artists working in these creative fields. We have been bringing the top book and paper artists to our community since 2009, and this year is no different.

The National Collegiate Handmade Paper Art Triennial

Opening at 6:30 pm  Friday, May 13 is the National Collegiate Handmade Paper Art Triennial.  Founded in 1999, the Triennial allows college students a way to show the country what they add to the field of handmade paper art. This year’s juror, Joan Hall, Professor Emeritus of the Sam Fox School of the Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, has selected the most exciting work of 22 students in the field. Morgan Conservatory is among a select set of venues including university galleries, museums, and art centers around the country to exhibit this exceptional work. Exhibition runs through June 18.

Imagined Garment…Imagined Ground: Julie McLaughlin and Masha Ryskin

Artists Julie McLaughlin and Masha Ryskin bring us a glimpse of their impressive bodies of work in this dual exhibition. Both artists have exhibited both nationally and internationally and we are happy to share their work with the community.

Iowa-based Julie McLaughlin has been making paper and exploring its sculptural possibilities for the better part of twenty years. She focuses on the use of Eastern fibers in particular to create wearable paper garments and the results are stunning.

Masha Ryskin is a Russian born artist currently based in Rochester, NY and Providence, RI. She uses a variety of media, including drawing and painting, printmaking, installation, and fibers. Her work is concerned with landscape and its elements as a metaphor for memory, history, and passage of time.

Please join us on Friday, June 24th from 6:30-8:30pm for the opening reception. Exhibition runs through August 6.

Confluence: Twelve Collaborations

The Morgan is pleased to host this group exhibition of well-known American papermakers who have partnered with printmakers, calligraphers and surface designers to create collaborative work that ranges from prints to books and everything in between. Not only do these collaborations allow the Morgan to exhibit work from some of the top artists and papermakers in the country, but it allows for unique works to be borne out of combining the creative powers of two such artists. The opening reception for this event is 6:30 – 8:30 pm Friday, August 12. Exhibition runs through September 17.
